BALI (30/1) – The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) continues to intensify preparations for the Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) 2026, scheduled to take place in Bali this coming June.
Most recently, MMAF promoted OIS 2026 to hundreds of participants at two major international forums held in Bali: the Bali Ocean Days Conference and Showcase, and the 30th Session of the Coastal States Alliance (CSA).
“Beyond preparing for the event itself, we are actively promoting the substance and objectives of OIS 2026. The more stakeholders who are aware of and participate in the summit, the greater the impact we can generate,” said Doni Ismanto Darwin, Special Advisor to the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, in an official statement released in Jakarta on Friday (30/1).
Doni explained that OIS 2026 was introduced at both forums due to their strong alignment with marine and fisheries issues. Bali Ocean Days, attended by global representatives and leaders of non-profit organizations, addressed key topics such as coastal development, coral reef conservation, and marine debris.
Meanwhile, the 30th Session of the Coastal States Alliance (CSA) focused on safeguarding tuna stocks ahead of the Technical Committee on Allocation Criteria (TCAC) session scheduled for Perth, Australia, from 3–6 February. This meeting brought together representatives from coastal states and fisheries organizations under the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC).
John Burton, founder of the Sustainable Fisheries and Communities Trust (SFACT) and a participant at the CSA meeting, expressed his support for the summit.
“The inauguration of OIS signals Indonesia’s leadership in the marine and fisheries sector. I first learned about OIS through a presentation at the World Economic Forum (WEF), and I confirm that I will attend on June 8–9,” he stated.
OIS 2026 will be held in Bali on 8–9 June under the theme “Unlocking the Potential of the Blue Economy”. As the host, Indonesia has secured support from the World Economic Forum (WEF) and OceanX, a global non-profit organization specializing in ocean research and technology.
Through OIS 2026, the Government of Indonesia aims to catalyze innovation in the sustainable utilization of marine resources, supporting economic growth and food security while safeguarding ocean health.
